Hey Sam.....
Its to do with getting the spark to spark just at the right time.....
Timings adjusted by twisting the distributor, back or forwards....
http://www.aircooledtech.com/timing/static/
If you havnt got a test light, you could try turning the dizzy slightly to see if things improve, dont turn it much tho, and get it done properly before long as an over advanced engine will cook itself......
Thats if it is timing........
Shame your not in Barnstaple....... _________________

Think Sam worries too much it sounds fine to me! BUT I'm no expert on anything mechanical!
He is gonna try to find someone local to take a look and make sure its ok rather than mess about with it himself _________________ If I won the lottery would I buy a Split???? No I'd do up my Type 25 cos I love him to bits |

should a 009 dizzy have a mark on the top of the cast metal to show you were to align the rotor arm to the body? if so i may have an uber rare 009 with no mark!!! is there any other way of lining up? has anybody came across this before and can anybody help??? cheers, tony!! _________________ Good advice costs nothing and is worth the price. |

Havn't seen one without a mark before.......
But the drive dog below will only allow for fitting two ways......either right or 180 degrees out, but if you keep the condenser in the same position, you should then be somewhere nearby......I think.......... _________________

And dont forget, to fully time a 009 you have to fully advance it, ie approx 3000 revs, with a strobe......static will get it running, thats all.[Hopefully] _________________

Good idea......miles better.
Biggest con out them 009's, you only need em if you havn't got a vacumn port on the carb, or the fact there a third of the price.....But they dont tell you that!!!
And most of them are cheap Brazillian jobs.......
I could go on......but thats not like me!!!! _________________
