LOCKS

Postby funkyfreakapotomus » Wed Apr 17, 2013 3:45 pm

My cab door locks have finally given up the ghost as well as my cargo door!!

This now puts me in a predicament as I can now no longer lock my bus from the outside!!

With more and more buses being stolen this is quite concerning!

I have gone to the local mobile auto locksmith who would charge £30 per hour to have a look, strip down, clean etc but with no guarantee that this will work.

C&C do replacement barrels at £25 each for cab doors but I read so much about poor quality from them amongst others. Plus they want £6.95 postage which annoyed me!

Anyone any ideas or know anyone who could have a look at them for me??

Many thanks, in advance!!

When you say given up the ghost whats up with them?

The actual barrels are quite simple to strip and clean. Think theres a thread to read here...

All you need is good lighting, bloody good vision and some patience. I stripped my down as had no key to match, juggled the brass plates around with some spares I had in an old lock and now they work. Would work better but they occasionally slip past the metal tabs in the lock itself ..

a sodding good steering wheel lock aids security too..

Well, they did all work and now don't!!

Having never stripped-down a lock before I wouldn't know what the issue is.

I have all original keys ie ignition key opened the cab doors!

I have been playing with getting a skytag fitted or similar!

Steering lock may have to be purchased!!

I thought VW did a Lock repair kit, all the Tumblers in different sizes

with reference to the following
http://www.hallvw.clara.net/lockpart.htm

hope that helps a little.
