hmmmm thinking of trying this for myself, and anyonr give me hints tips and downfalls??

Downfalls... Expensive and hard to get parts, heavy engine which pretty much negates any power increase on a 1700, engine too heavy to remove and replace alone without help... Thirsty...stock carbs which are normally fubar...

I think you'd get better performance by putting 1641 barrels and pistons in your type 1 motor, a decent twin carb kit, exhaust and dizzy... Plus your van would weigh the same and you'd still be able to take the motor out alone and parts still cheap and plentyful...

I've never seen the point of a type 4 conversion...
