Electrical problem

Postby TopGhia » Sun May 27, 2012 3:59 pm

I've got a really confusing electrical problem on the ghia, one headlight is constantly on full beam when I switch my lights on. When I switch to full beam the one on full beam goes to dipped and the other is then on full beam

I have cleaned all fuses and contacts, even switched the wires to the headlight but it still works that way.

Any ideas?

how do

Sounds like you may have an open ground on the first headlight, or in the lighting elec's.

Question? has it just happened or have you been playing with the lights :D , I mean were you doing some wiring adjustments?

I had a relay issue which cause the lights to come on main beam as soon as ignition was on... But that would affect both...

Have you recently replaced the lamp itself, I'm assuming it's a twin filament type bulb?

Try putting another in.

Hi,

Fixed the last electrical problem it was an open earth.

The next challenge is .....

Both of my front indicators are not working but both rear indicators are working on my ghia.

I've tried cleaning the earth from the front right indicator (tapped into rear headlight bowl but I can't find an earth on the front left indicator. Is this correct?

Cheers, Jon

Yes, the bulb haven't changed (still intact though) just stopped working at some time over the last few weeks.

Drive in reverse.

I've just stuck a BMW 5 series badge on the back, I noticed they didn't have indicators either.

hi ya

Should be just earthed through the bulb holder to the body.
this might help

The supply comes from the same terminal as the rear indi's so should be ok. Do you have a
multi meter and are you getting any supply at the bulb???

I had a look at the wiring diagram yesterday but couldn't work out what the "0.5 wire" was running back to the light switch.

I cleaned up the contacts for the bulb as they were heavily tarnished but I couldn't get a supply from contact to bulb holder, thats why I cleaned up the earth.

If it was an earth problem why would it stop working on both sides?

would suggest it looks like a parking light connection as it connects to the same terminal as the Live wire.
The Arrow suggests Earth, so it should be that simple in theiry. :)

Is there a second wire to the rear of the indicator?
